Esomeprazole Magnesium falls under the family of medications known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It acts by inhibiting the stomach lining’s “acid pump,” therefore lowering the generation of stomach acid. This is beneficial:
- Get relief from GERD symptoms like acid refugation and heartburn.
- Encourage recovery from erosive esophagitis—damage to the esophagus caused by stomach acid.
- Stomach ulcers brought on by NSAIDs should be avoided.
- Lower the likelihood of recurrence ulcers in patients past ulcer illness.
- Formulated to dissolve in the gut for best absorption, each delayed-release capsule contains 40 mg of esomeprazole magnesium.
Tell your doctor whether you: Before using Esomeprazole Magnesium 40 mg:
- Are sensitive to any capsule component, other PPIs (such as omeprazole, pantoprazole), or esomeprazole?
- Have a past history of liver disease or significant liver damage.
- Are nursing, intend to get pregnant, or are you pregnant?
- I am on additional drugs, particularly:
- Clopidogrel, the blood thinner,
- Another anticoagulant is warfarin or another
- HIV protease inhibitors (such as atazanavir)
- Methotrexate
- Anti-seize medications, such as phenytoin
- Low magnesium levels or disorders compromising mineral balance
- Alerts and Additional Thoughts:
- Extended usage (more than one year) might raise a bone fracture or vitamin B₁₂ insufficiency risk.
- May conceal more severe illness symptoms (such as those of stomach cancer).
- Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest required time.
